The Minister Rambles in December!

Wednesday 9th December 2009 10:04 PM

Dear Friends,

You know - Christmas is all about Jesus. As we celebrate the coming of the Lord into our world I wonder if we get a little bit too over sentimental and fail to realise just who Jesus is. We bandy around phrases like "the incarnate Lord", without ever stopping to think who that babe in a manger really was - no, not was, but is. And yet I came across an Old Testament passage the other day which could have been written by any of the apostles or even uttered by Jesus himself. It's a text which I think sums up just who Jesus is and what he came to do. Zephaniah wrote, some 600 plus years before Jesus arrived in Bethlehem, saying:

"The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love,

he will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17.

What wonderful words! When Jesus made his way into our world in a cold smelly cave somewhere near to Bethlehem, it was the Lord Almighty who came to be with his people, who came to save, who came to have a relationship with us, and who came to bring peace to our hearts.

And that lovely line "He will rejoice over you with singing".....

Have you ever thought of God rejoicing over YOU with singing? What a wonderful image of a loving caring God who is passionate about us!

In one reading I read these words "God longs to be close to us and invites us to draw near."

What will your response be?

Your friend and Minister,

TERRY.
