The Minister Rambles - January

Sunday 10th January 2010 6:48 PM

Terry chats in January...

Dear Friends,
The new year is before us. In our morning Service on the first Sunday of January we will have recommitted ourselves into God's service. We will have promised to go wherever he might lead and to do whatever he would have us do.
It would be so easy to relay the same old saying that "We don't know what the future holds for us, but God does, so let us put our trust in him for all things". This is true and I endorse it wholeheartedly. However, as most of you know, believing it is not easy. It all comes down to something which is essential, and that is heart knowledge. Its the same with conversion. We know it is no good just having an intellectual belief in Jesus; we need also to have our hearts changed or, as they say, a heart knowledge of the Lord.
It is the same with trusting God with our futures. We can read and read the Bible and hear all those wonderful passages which show us God is in control, and we can believe them with our minds, but we also need to believe with our hearts. That is the difficult bit. The number of times I have heard people say, and have said it myself, "I know my future is in God's hands but I still have my worries, doubts, concerns." This is because we know the truth with our heads but that truth sometimes has difficulty making its way to our hearts.
This is where that little five letter word called 'faith' comes in. I will not pretend that it is easy to totally trust God with everything. I know it is not easy as I still struggle with it at times. However, at the end of the day, we need to look back to the past year and ask the question "Has God ever let us down?" The answer is "No". And in the year that lies ahead, as long as we walk close with him, he will not let us down, he will journey with us wherever he leads us, and he will empower us with whatever he wants us to do.
Are you facing an uncertain future? Have you made your promises to God this day wondering if you are up to keeping them? Ask the Father
to increase your faith, and transform your hearts so that we don't simply have an intellectual knowledge and assent to the promises of God, but
we believe with our hearts as well.
God bless you all this coming year,
Terry.
